So what does Steve Jobs have to do with landing your ideal job? This quote from him has long been an inspiration for me:
“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle.”
Many, many people pursue what they think is great work, making the most informed decision they could at the time. Most end up settling for what they have, which may provide some satisfaction, a healthy monthly paycheck, but will often leave people unfulfilled.
We often leave school, college or university with an expectation from society that we should have it all figured out, that once we’ve picked our career we should be set for life. But the reality is many people simply have not had the tools to figure out what great work looks like to them, and factors and circumstances often change in one's life, which can alter your view too.
Everyone knows that we’ve got one shot at this life, so to spend time figuring out what your ideal work looks like makes a lot of sense. Trying to find your ideal job, without spending the time to find out what great work or your ideal work looks like to you will often lead to frustration and a recurring pattern of dissatisfaction in your career.
